2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.
The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. After several months of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to keep observing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
