It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has achieved everything.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their hitters to possess a record if not provided the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as captain.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
